The North Panola School District operates 5 schools and a career and technical center. Panola County is served by Northwest Community College which is located in Senatobia, just 25 minutes outside of Batesville. Northwest offers career-technical, academic, and workforce development programs as well as GED courses and Continuing Education.

Students seeking vocational or technical training can take courses at North Panola Career and Technical Center in Como, South Panola Career and Technical Education in Batesville, or the Delta Workforce Investment Area/Alternative School, also in Batesville.

South Panola School District

The South Panola School District serves approximately 4,500 students on 6 campuses throughout Batesville and the southern portion of Panola County in grades PreK-12.  SPSD is fully accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDES). The school district employs more than 300 certified teachers, of which over 55 are National Board Certified.  A rigorous curriculum is in place to challenge students each day through the regular course offerings, as well as the opportunities for students to excel in MERIT (gifted curriculum), Dual Credit/Enrollment, AP and Accelerated course offerings in all four subject areas at the secondary level, which offers students the opportunity to earn college credits before leaving high school.  The South Panola School District School Board meets at 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesdays at the South Panola Parent Center.

  • Batesville Elementary was awarded a 5-year Barksdale Reading Institute Grant. Operates as a Title I school since 1997.
  • Pope School had 94% of third grade students pass the initial third grade Reading Summative Assessment.  Only 10 of 146 school districts in Mississippi had a higher percentage of students passing the assessment than SPSD.
  • South Panola High offers over 120 Carnegie units and 16 career and technical education programs. Programs at the school include a 4-year JROTC program, 13 sports programs, band, and a choral program.
  • South Panola Parent Center provides resources to parents of students to assist them with homework and test preparation.

The North Panola School District serves 1,574 students in K-12 in the northern part of the county. The District operates 5 schools and a career and technical center.  The North Panola School District School Board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday at the North Panola High School Library.

North Delta School – Batesville, MS

With approximately 400 students enrolled and a 12-to-1 student to teacher ratio, North Delta School is accredited through the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. It provides pre-school through high school education. High school students can earn college credit through dual enrollment at Delta State University, located about 1.5 hours from Batesville.

NWCC Concourse Training Center is scheduled to open Phase 1 in the fall of 2021.

HIGH SCHOOL CAREER & TECHNICAL PIPELINE TO CONCOURSE

Delta Workforce Investment Area/Alternative School

Located in the Batesville Junior High School, the DWIA offers GED courses, tutoring and study skills development, summer employment opportunities, adult mentoring, and other programs to youth. It provides services to youth in 14 counties. This program is part of the South Panola School District.
